22,000 homes facilitated and 14,687 homes approved as EDQ delivers record housing outcomes
Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) has delivered record housing outcomes in 2025-26, helping bring more homes to market sooner and supporting growing communities across Queensland. More than 22,000 homes were facilitated through Priority Development Area (PDA) declarations, while 14,687 homes were approved in PDAs – significantly exceeding targets and demonstrating the impact of coordinated planning, infrastructure investment and delivery.
These results reflect EDQ’s focus on cutting red tape, improving planning certainty and working with industry, local governments and infrastructure providers to increase housing supply and support Queensland’s growth.
Supporting industry to deliver more homes
The results demonstrate the value of strong partnerships between EDQ, developers, investors and industry.
Development application volumes increased by 29% during the year, while approvals issued increased by 45%, reflecting strong development activity across Queensland.
EDQ also supported the delivery of:
- 1,800 homes contracted on EDQ-owned land;
- 1,499 homes commenced on EDQ-owned land; and
- $1,153 million in private sector investment generated through economic and community development projects.
For industry, these outcomes build confidence to invest, deliver projects and bring housing supply to market sooner.
EDQ has certainly helped fast-track our process to deliver these projects. It is certainly our goal to bring housing on as quickly as possible, and that has been demonstrated very clearly through the level of engagement that EDQ has been working with us on.
Faster approvals helping unlock housing supply
Development assessment improvements introduced in November 2025 are streamlining processes, improving transparency and giving customers greater certainty when delivering housing projects across the state. These improvements include a new online customer portal, enhanced pre-lodgement services and stronger support throughout the assessment process.
The improvements are already delivering measurable results. More than 94% were decided within 40 business days.
This is giving applicants greater certainty and helping projects move more efficiently from planning to construction.
Coordinating growth through infrastructure and planning
Delivering homes at scale depends on coordinated planning and investment in enabling infrastructure.
During 2025-26, $568 million in infrastructure investment was delivered across Priority Development Areas, helping provide the roads, utilities and services needed to support existing and future communities.
These results highlight the role of local governments and infrastructure providers in enabling housing delivery and ensuring growing communities have the infrastructure they need.
Benefits flowing to Queenslanders
Ultimately, these outcomes are about creating more housing opportunities and liveable communities for Queenslanders.
Every home facilitated, approved, contracted or commenced contributes to housing supply, housing choice and better places for communities across the state.
The benefits also extend beyond housing. During the year, EDQ’s work generated $1,153 million in private sector investment and supported 2,348 jobs through economic and community projects; contributing to economic growth, investment and prosperity across Queensland.
Strong partnerships driving results
These outcomes reflect stronger collaboration, improved service delivery and clear momentum across EDQ and its partners.
EDQ’s trust and recognition increased to 73.6%, up from 60% the previous year, demonstrating growing confidence in EDQ’s commitment to working with customers, industry and government partners to achieve better outcomes.
What’s next
These record outcomes show what can be achieved when government, industry, local governments and infrastructure providers work together to accelerate housing delivery.
Building on this momentum, EDQ will continue partnering with stakeholders through initiatives including the Infrastructure Activation Fund (IAF), Land Activation Program (LAP) and Industrial Land Acceleration Program (ILAP) to unlock land, accelerate infrastructure delivery and bring more homes to market sooner.
By strengthening partnerships, improving planning certainty and investing in enabling infrastructure, EDQ is helping deliver more homes, jobs and investment for communities across Queensland.
