The Land Activation Program (LAP) is a brand new nation-leading initiative of the new Queensland Government which identifies, unlocks, then releases to market underutilised Government land for housing.
The LAP will support the Queensland Government in delivering one million new homes by 2044, giving more Queenslanders a place to call home.
EDQ will lead the whole-of-government initiative – a program set to initially release a 6.4ha site in Banyo, which can accommodate for up to 400 homes.
Additional sites will be progressively released to market as land activation strategies are in place across all of Queensland.
Under the LAP, EDQ will use its multiple planning and development powers under the Economic Development Act 2012 to fast-track the delivery of new homes by providing the planning certainty needed and the powers to unlock site constraints or infrastructure challenges.
Importantly, the LAP will allow EDQ to accept unsolicited proposal from industry where they have identified Government land that may be surplus to needs. EDQ will then investigate the site/s on behalf of a proponent, and provide advice on its suitability within 30 business days.
Partner with EDQ to bring forward opportunities to unlock more homes
We’re inviting industry to bring forward under-utilised government-owned land suitable for housing for EDQ to consider, in line with the below criteria.
How can industry put forward an opportunity?
For a site to be considered under the EDQ Land Activation Program, there are initial criteria to meet the program objectives:
- The site is owned by the Queensland Government or related entity and is currently underutilised or surplus;
- Has the potential to deliver or facilitate the delivery of housing outcomes, including within a mixed-use development; and
- Requires unlocking or activating by EDQ.
If you have a site for consideration, please complete the below form.
