We respect your privacy

Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) handles personal information according to the Information Privacy Act 2009 (IP Act) and Queensland Privacy Principles.

‘Personal information’ is information that identifies you (or reasonably allows you to be identified). Examples include your name, address, phone number, email, age, gender, employer, job title and other details about you.

The Office of the Information Commissioner offers guidance on your privacy rights in Queensland.

 

Why we ask for your personal information

When you contact EDQ, we collect personal details to help with your request. If you do not provide the required details, we may not be able to assist you.

We may ask for personal information to:

  • meet your needs (e.g. answer a question, provide a service)
  • meet our needs (e.g. demographic analysis)
  • comply with the law.

Data Breaches

Under the IP Act, Queensland government agencies are required to take specific actions in the event of a data breach. A data breach occurs when personal information is accessed, disclosed or lost without authorisation.

EDQ must notify individuals when it believes there may be a data breach involving personal information.
