The Queensland Government has commenced a long-awaited solution for Port Hinchinbrook – restoring the destination into a thriving tourism, commercial and residential precinct.
As part of the restoration, EDQ will reinstate all-tide access to the marina and public waterways, improve Coast Guard access to enhance boating safety, and safely manage dredging spoil to protect the Hinchinbrook Channel.
The initiative will also give the local Coast Guard clear access to improve local boating safety, as well as resolving long-standing legal issues that have impeded the redevelopment and economic future of Port Hinchinbrook.
Within the 140-hectare Provision Priority Development Area (PPDA), the Queensland Government will acquire selected land parcels –so that the destination’s long-running economic and environmental issues can be finally resolved unimpeded.
EDQ will now work in partnership with Cassowary Coast Regional Council, industry, the community and other stakeholders to deliver a coordinated program of works.
A Provisional Land Use Plan (PLUP) is now in effect, with EDQ acting as the development assessor within the PPDA boundary.
Community members are encouraged to have their say and stay informed via the EDQ website.
